The Account of Creation

Before the beginning, there is only God. The story of creation is a story about God, what he does and how he interacts with his creation. By God’s hand, everything comes into existence out of nothing. He builds it all with grandeur, makes each creature with attention and care, and calls everything good. The Creation story shows us how much God loves all that he has made. This is the beginning of the big story — God’s story told in the Bible.

Read Genesis 1:1-2:25

It all starts with the first verse in the Bible, there was nothing it was total void. Out of the void, God starts to create the heaven and the earth. The whole earth was without form and darkness covered the deep waters and God’s spirit was hovering over the surface of the water. To imagine this world that it was created out of nothing is a big miracle. The main account of creation revolves around God just speaking a word over the world and one by one all the things begin to form and take shape. Here is the account of creation one by one which came into being just from the word of God.

  1. First Day — Light and Darkness
  2. Second Day — Sky
  3. Third Day — Land and the Ocean / Vegetation
  4. Fourth Day — Sun, Moon and the stars
  5. Fifth Day — Sea creatures, Land creatures & Flying creatures
  6. Sixth Day — Animals & Human Being
  7. Seventh Day — God rested

Above all the creation that God had made, He gives the ultimate control to the human being to control over all the other animals and birds. The human being is the only creature that God made in his own image. There is no other creature that was made in the likeness of God.

As I read through this chapters, I sometimes wondered why did God take 6 days for the whole creation? Can’t He just create everything in just one day with just His word? Then I realized may God was just taking His time to create everything perfectly to His liking. I believe God is one of the greatest creative minds in the whole wide universe. So it is essential that He utilized the whole 12 or 24 hours of the day to think over his creation and finally put in place.

When you look at some of the natural landscape or the space shots from NASA you could clearly see the creative genius of the author. When I think and look at God’s creation I am in awe of all His creations. With all his beautiful creation finally, He hands over the created things to us to rule over it all. How awesome is that?. Though the world is not so perfect I thank God for his immense creation of how beautiful and splendid it is for us to enjoy it.

Observation Point:

The first two chapters of Genesis provide the only record we have of a perfect world. This is what perfection looks like. God wanted this world for all of us. Notice the activities that existed before sin invaded. Contrary to what most people believe, work was part of the good creation: God created, blessed, and planted; man tended the garden, watched over it and named the animals. Man and woman were to be fruitful, multiply, govern the earth, and reign over the animals. God rested, the man slept. These were all perfect activities.

Exploration Point:

The climax of God’s creation was the formation of humans.Male and female were made in his image. You are like him. Out of all of creation, you carry his image, breathed into you by his breath of life. No other part of Creation can claim to have his image or his breath. You are infused with his likeness through your moral conscience and spiritual awareness. When you are feeling beaten down and questioning yourself, these truths can be of great encouragement.
