Day 5: Love Defined

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. — 1 Corinthians 13:1.

Read the whole passage in 1 Corinthians 13:1-8

Love is not a line on our to-do list. It is the whole list, the only goal, the only task in life. Love is God’s defining attribute, his all-encompassing requirement, his only law. Mastery of words, intellect, success, power, friendship, or romance –none of these matters without love. All of life, every good deed, every noble task, if not colored and painted with love create only an empty canvas. From the mundane to the profound, from cleaning dishes to curing cancer, nothing matters without love, and everything matters with it. Relationships are pointless and powerless without it. Love has little to do with feelings and everything to do with selfless, humble, thoughtful care for another person.

Talk with God
You loved us while we were still your enemy, you died for us while we cursed your name, and you planned our salvation knowing our rebellion and pride. We love because you loved first.

Live it. How will you live more second today?
Tell it. How will you share what you have learned?
