Day 1: Creation

Watch Tony Evans Story:

What did you like about, identify with, or learn from Tony’s Story?

My take: We are living in a world where everyone is racing towards to become first in whatever that we do and we lose the fact of joy, peace, and love around us and instead life is filled with stress, materialism, and complexities of life. I have not personally gone through the racial issues faced by African-American community in the US since I am of Indian origin. But sometimes I could literally relate to some situations here in the US where I would have been looked low or there was some kind of differences some people show.

Above all else, Tony Evans specifically identified himself as the Son of the Living God Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ himself shed his life for us so that we all can be called as prince and princess, Sons & daughters of the living God. No matter what others think of us, think of yourself as a son of living God through Him anything is possible no matter your situations and positions. When you put God first in everything all the other things like your car, home, children, wife, a career will all fall in place and you can be sure that you will have peace, joy, and love which no money can buy.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. And he made mankind his own image — Genesis 1:1,27

Read the whole passage in Genesis 1:1-28

What It Says

  1. What did you like about this passage?

My Take:  I always love how God created all the creatures and things in this world with just a word and while creating humans he took extra care and made sure he/she has to be in His own image. He did not leave at that, He also gave the entire authority to man to rule over the rest of the creation that God had created. This showed how much of trust God had for the man.

  1. What did you not like or find confusing about this passage?

My Take: One thing questions me is that why not to create humans at first instead of waiting and creating him at the last. This always had been in my mind thinking why?

What It Means

  1. What does this passage teach about people?

My Take: It is that people are all created in the likeness of God and everyone of them is special in God’s eyes.

  1. What does this passage teach about God?

My Take: God is mighty and He is able to do anything with just his word. He had created this entire world with just a word. He did not dig in to create every creature and places by hand work but rather whatever beautiful natural landscapes that we see and enjoy is just created with a word from God.

Live It. How will you live more Second today?

Tell It. How will you share what you have learned?

Practice It. Get with a friend or someone in your group. Practice or role-play your “Live and Tell” commitments.

I encourage my readers to take a personal journal this year and follow with me to reflect on different aspects of life. As I have reflected on some of the questions from the devotional, I encourage each and every one of my readers to reflect on the questions and the passage and let us mediate together on keeping us second and Jesus Christ as First.
